I've just discovered by accident that RMS Aquitania had two "bridges" above each other:
Picture 1 (http://www.nmm.ac.uk/collections/displayRepro.cfm?reproID=G10847&picture=1#content) shows the standard bridge with wheel, telegraphs and so on.
Picture 2 (http://www.nmm.ac.uk/collections/displayRepro.cfm?reproID=G10789&picture=1#content) shows the so called "flying bridge" straight above the standard bridge. The open air flying bridge was enclosed later on in Aquitania's career (as can be seen here: http://www.nmm.ac.uk/collections/displayRepro.cfm?reproID=G10918&picture=1#content).
My question is now: What was the use of this strange arrangement? Why two brigdes straight above each other? I can't see any enhancement in that. Who can help?
